Aug 13 (IBNS) Some famous Hollywood names paid their last tribute to director John Hughes at his private funeral in a Chicago suburb.

Some of his former colleagues including Vince Vaughn, Ben Stein and Matthew Broderick joined Hughes’ family and friends at the two-hour memorial service in Forest Lake, reports ananova.com.

The star director died of a heart attack while taking a walk in Manhattan last Thursday, while visiting family.

Hughes family conducted the funeral on a purely invitation basis and kept it a low key affair. In fact, Hughes also maintained a low profile life in Illinois away from the hullabaloo of Hollywood spotlight.

Stein had starred as the economics teacher in one of Hughes biggest hit Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, the iconic and comedy film in 1986. Stein was one of the speakers at the funeral and paid rich tributes to the 59-year-old filmmaker.

“A great, great, great genius and as much of a friend and a great family man as he was a poet,” Stein said about Hughes in his speech.

Stein described the service as “very touching” and said there was “a lot of crying”.

After the funeral, mourners gathered in a procession to a nearby Lake Forest cemetery, where Hughes was laid to rest.

The filmmaker has left a rich legacy behind which includes, teen blockbusters such as The Breakfast Club, Uncle Buck and Home Alone. Hughes is survived by his widow Nancy Ludwig, two sons and four grandchildren.
