An Indian actor Shelly Malil, 43 , starring in “40-Year-Old Virgin” charged on Wednesday for stabbing his ex-girlfriend. US police reported she was stabbed more than 20 times.

According to her Facebook page, police identified the victim as Kendra Beebe, a 35-year-old mother of two children who works as an insurance broker in Carlsbad, a coastal suburb.

The Sheriff’s Department assumed that both of them has been dating and ended recently.

Deputies found the victim Sunday night while responding to reports of screams for help and breaking glass in San Marcos, about 24km east of Oceanside.

The victim was listed in critical condition yesterday and there is no update on her condition today, spokeswoman Jan Caldwell said.

Shelly Malil, the native of Kerala, India was charged last night as he left a train in Oceanside. Malil lives in the Los Angeles suburb of Sherman Oaks, had taken the train to the San Diego area to meet his lawyer, who had joined the actor’s family and friends in persuading him to turn himself in, deputies said.

Malil was scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow in Vista, north of San Diego, said Paul Levikow, a spokesman for the San Diego County District Attorney’s office. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted on all counts.

He also played a co-worker, Haziz, to comedian Steve Carell’s title character in The 40-Year-Old Virgin, and has appeared in dozens of TV shows including NYPD Blue and Scrubs.
