220px-star_jones Mar 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Star Jones is said to be recovering from cardiac surgery which she underwent on Wednesday. The surgery was related to a rarely-performed operation she had 30 years ago after she was discovered to have a thoracic tumor.

A spokesperson for Star Jones released a statement to People Magazine which confirmed that she had undergone the operation. “On Wednesday, March 17th, a pre-planned cardiac surgery was performed on Star Jones,” the statement read. “This recent surgery is a follow-up to the thoracic surgery she had 30 years ago. The procedure was successful and she is recovering well with her family. Star is grateful for everyone’s thoughts and prayers.”

Aside from these two surgeries, Star also had gastric by-pass surgery in 2003. She lost 160 pounds after the procedure. Star will be 48 on March 24. She is perhaps best known for her time co-hosting the television show “The View.” She joined the show in 1997, becoming the first African American co-host for “The View.” She left the show in after officially reporting that she would do so on June 27, 2006. She also let it be known that this was not her choice, but that the ABC network had refused to renew her contract, much to everyone’s surprise. “What you don’t know is that my contract was not renewed for the 10th season … I feel like I was fired.”

She has since moved on to many other projects, such as truTV, which was formerly Court TV. She has also been a red carpet host for E! Television network and has written two books, You Have to Stand for Something, or You’ll Fall for Anything, and A Physical, Emotional, and Spiritual Journey to Finding Love, the first published in 1998 and the second in 2006.

Star is in our thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.
