March 22, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Star Jones American lawyer and TV personality underwent cardiac surgery on Wednesday related to rarely-performed surgery she had three decades ago after developing a thoracic tumor.

A representative for the television personality confirmed the procedure. “On Wednesday, March 17th, a pre-planned cardiac surgery was performed on Star Jones,” the statement read. “This recent surgery is a follow-up to the thoracic surgery she had 30 years ago. The procedure was successful and she is recovering well with her family. Star is grateful for everyone’s thoughts and prayers.”

Jones best known for her role as a co-host of ABC weekday morning talk show The View, had undergone gastric bypass surgery in August of 2003, resulting in a loss of 160 pounds. Though she was criticized for not being honest and claiming that she had lost weight via diet and exercise.

Her recent cardiac surgery comes just days before her 48th birthday on March 24. She was named to PETA’s “Worst Dressed” List four years in a row. An anti-fur ad from PETA featured drag queen Flotilla DeBarge dressed as Jones in a spoof. Jones threatened to sue PETA and DeBarge as a result of the ad.
