SRK back home from US
August 18th, 2009 - 5:08 pm ICT by IBNS ( Leave a comment )Mumbai, Aug 18 (IBNS) Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is back in India on Tuesday from his ‘not so pleasant’ visit to the US, where he was held up for questioning for two hours by the US immigration officials at the Newark airport.
SRK was detained and questioned for almost two hours at Newark Airport in America Saturday, part of what the US calls “racial profiling” to weed out terror suspects.
“It was in Newark where I was detained for questioning. It was because they said my name was common to some name that popped up on the computer. I told them I am a movie star and had recently visited the country for the shooting for a film (‘My Name is Khan’).
They kept on asking me silly questions like if I knew someone in the US who could vouch for me, if I could give them numbers of people they could get in touch with,” Khan had told reporters, after his detention.
“I had all the documents; they were asking me where I was going to be staying. I gave the name of FOX people with whom I had finalised a deal a few days ago as contacts. I kept on giving numbers. They wanted to know why I came here…I felt bad, angry…I was harassed for no reason,” he said.
In Houston, where he arrived from Chicago to attend a ‘Meet and Greet’ carnival, Khan told his fans Monday that he did not feel like stepping on US soil again. He went to the extent saying while everybody loves what America has to offer “but I think it needs to offer a little more warmth and speed in its processes”.
Khan was in the US to attend Independence Day celebrations along with Bollywood celebrities Saif Ali Khan, Katrina Kaif and Bipasha Basu.
