Squatter kicked out of Ann Curry’s NY home
August 17th, 2011 - 10:08 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York, Aug 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Anchorwoman Ann Curry’s home in New York was occupied by a homeless squatter, The New York Post has reported. The “Today Show” co-anchor and husband bought the property in 2003 but due to building violations, the family has not been able to move into the structure. This is the second time that the structure has been occupied by a homeless squatter since they bought it.
Curry is currently in Africa where she is reporting for the show. She has not spoken about the incident. The NYP reports that the homeless man who was not identified in the report has since been removed from the structure and placed in a homeless facility by the NYPD.
The newspaper quoted the homeless man as saying that, “Ann Curry means crap to me! The reason I lived there was because they chased me out of Central Park. I’ll go back if someone says, ‘Here’s the key. Maintain the building.’”
Curry and husband Brian Ross purchased the house for $2.9 million. Shortly after purchasing the 3,700-square-foot Upper West Side townhouse, the couple embarked on a massive renovation process but they were stopped when the neighbors filed a suit. The Buildings Department stopped the renovation about five years ago because they found that they violated the city’s building laws.
