Tamil director Selvaraghavan and his actress wife, Sonia Agarwal have filed for divorce on Wednesday. The rumors about their strained relationship have been doing rounds since last year, when Selvaraghavan got into an affair with Tamil playback singer, actress and model Andrea Jeremiah, who will be seen playing the lead in his upcoming film, Aayirathil Oruvan.
If sources are to be believed, Sonia visited her husband on the sets of the film in Hyderabad and reportedly slapped Andrea in front of the crew for fooling around with her husband. Sonia’s return to television as an actress made the matters worse. She was initially averse to the idea of a divorce and tried to improve the situation. She is now ready for a divorce by mutual consent. The couple tied the knot in December 2006, but has now filed their case in the family court at Egmore, Chennai. Since the divorce is on the grounds of mutual consent, it is expected to be short and smooth. Close friends and relatives, along with superstar Rajinikanth (Rajinikanth’s daughter Aishwarya is married to Selvaraghavan’s younger brother actor Dhanush) had tried to get them to save their marriage, but it was already too late.
