Apr 09 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Not too long after the announcement of George Lucas’s new animated series comes one from Steven Spielberg. The shows are vastly different, however, since Lucas is preparing to do an animated comedy spoof of his own work, and Speilberg is all set to do an animated depiction of the future of our planet.

Plans are in motion to air the new series in the end of 2011. Reports say that it will be an animated show which will be shot in much the same style as the well loved “Planet Earth.” Called “Future Earth”, the show is to focus on what the planet will probably look like in 25, 50 and 1000 years. Everyone from top futurists to creative writers will all give their input to try and describe how life on Earth will evolve during the next century. The show is planned to be an exciting and informative look into what our planet’s future may hold.

Coming just after the release of his new mini-series “The Pacific” which follows the lives of three real life Marines, from Pearl Harbor to coming home after V-J Day. It is meant to be a realistic view of the events of the War instead of the sometimes idealistic and romantic views that Hollywood can produce. Spielberg decided to do the film from roots which were planted in his mind as a child, when televisions depictions of war did not match up with the stories told by his uncles and father. “My uncle and my dad were telling me how hellacious the war was, and it just wasn’t jibing with what was coming out of Hollywood,” Mr. Spielberg said.

The Discovery Channel has quite a few projects planned for the near future, such as a new miniseries which will be called “Life”. They are also set to replace their network “Discovery Health” with a network owned by Oprah Winfrey called…OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network)
