Mumbai, Sep 19 (IANS) Playback singer Sowmya Raoh has lent her voice to Rani Mukerji for the third time with the song “Dreamum wakeupum” from forthcoming film “Aiyyaa”. She says she wants to sing playback for several other actresses too.

Raoh has earlier sung “Nach baliye” (”Bunty Aur Babli”) and “Nachle ve” (”Ta Ra Rum Pum”) for Rani.

“I still have not sung for so many (actresses). I hope I sound good for everybody. This is my third song for Rani. I have been told that my voice suits her. But I would like to sing for everybody,” she said.

“Dreamum wakeupum” needed a south Indian touch to it, and Raoh’s voice seemed to fit in perfectly.

“The whole experience was good fun. The lyrics and the tune was already in place. The team was great to work with. They wanted a south Indian touch and I am a south Indian. But they didn’t want to make it very heavy as it is an item song. But it had to be slightly in your face,” Raoh told IANS.

Hailing from Bangalore, Sowmya came to Mumbai in 2001 and started singing for the Hindi film industry. She has sung many songs like “Roundhe hai” from “Pyar Tune Kya Kiya” and “Le le mazaa le” from “Wanted”.

The singer has sung almost 200 songs for south films and has worked with composers like A.R. Rahman, Deva and Vidyasagar. She says she has enjoyed working with all of them.

“It’s a different experience with different composers, but I have not had a problem working with anybody,” she said.

The singer feels that she still has a lot to learn from the veterans.

“We have all grown up listening to Lataji (Lata Mangeshkar), Ashaji (Asha Bhosle), Kishoreji (Kishore Kumar). I have learnt from everybody.

“They are all institutions. The learning process is still on. They have left a huge legacy for us. There is not even one style which they haven’t done,” she said.
