south1 April 15, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): The creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, will join forces with ‘Avenue Q’ co-creator, Robert Lopez, to build up a Mormon-themed Broadway musical. The musical will be referred to as ‘The Book of Mormon’. It will open sometime in March 2011. South Park is the American animated sitcom.

The tale of the musical rotates around two young Mormon missionaries, who embark with the assignment of repairing the globe. However, they soon comprehend that they have no notion about what they are getting themselves into.

It is not going to be a musical version of South Park but will carry on with the satire and coarseness of the show. Stone explained in a recent interview that the Broadway musical will have the same mockery and intrepid ripping that one witnesses in South Park. However, it will have charming Broadway tunes.

Parker and Stone have penned the show’s book, music and lyrics along with Lopez. Parker and director of Avenue Q, Jason Moore, will share the credits for direction. They are still to confirm casting for the musical.

This is the first time Parker and Stone are executing a Broadway musical but they are no foreigners to musical comedy. They have frequently included songs and presentations into the stories of South Park and even shared in an Oscar nomination for writing Blame Canada, an original tune from their 1999 film, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut.
