South Park do their own take on ‘Asperger’s syndrome’
October 6th, 2011 - 11:12 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLos Angeles, Oct 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Someone might be doing South Park’s Cartman a whole lot of favor if he is told that Asperger is not “ass-burger.” In the episode titled “Ass Burgers” which was on the 5th of October, Cartman got confused when he heard the word “Asperger’s syndrome” during the school discussion.
The school was discussing the HPV virus when they made mention of the autism condition. Cartman never tried to get anyone to tell him what it was so in a classic creativity of show creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, Cartman fills his backside with hamburgers. Cartman then goes to the school nurse and complained that he has a problem with his behind.
Though the series brought the humorous side of the condition that affects several children every year, it was worth the attempt to create the awareness. Asperger’s syndrome is a form of autism but it differs from the other types.
The Austrian scientist Hans Asperger detailed the condition in 1944 and that is why his name is associated with the condition. It affects the social interaction of the patient often times leaving them clumsy. The cause of the condition is not known and most of the children who have it seem to grow out of it as they mature.
