‘SOS Saving Ourselves: Help For Haiti’ Telethon Aired On Friday

haiti1Feb 6, (THAINDIAN NEWS) “SOS Saving Ourselves: Help for Haiti” a live telethon aired on Friday. The two-hour telethon which took place at American Airlines Arena in Miami, premiered on BET, MTV, VH1 and Centric. Following the extremely successful telethon called “Hope for Haiti” on Jan 22, which was hosted by George Clooney and which raised more than $66 million; the new telethon attempted in raising more money in order to help Haiti come out of its devastation. Wyclef Jean, who hails from Haiti, led the stage. Even before the earthquake shattered Haiti on Jan 12, Wyclef Jean started Yele Haiti Foundation. The foundation raises fund in order to help children to go to school. Wyclef Jean has supported Haiti in various ways ever since earthquake devastated the land. Through the telethon he tried to raise fund.

The performers for the evening included Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown, Busta Rhymes and Justin Beiber. It even had tennis player Serena Williams and former boxer Mike Tyson and singing diva Gloria Estefan, who were talking over the phones with the donors. Teenage sensation Justin Beiber actively answered the calls well as wowed the audience and viewers with his charm.

Justin Beiber sang some of the fan favorite numbers which included “Baby” and “I’ll Never Let You Go.” Before singing “I’ll Never Let You Go,” he requested the crowd to take out their cellphones and start donating. While singing “One Less Lonely Girl,” he started the lyrics in French and finished the number in English. When he was singing “Baby,” his collaborator on the song, Ludracis joined him. They altered the song a bit and made the purpose clear as they sang, “Baby, baby Haiti.”
