The show opens with the remaining dancers performing a circus-type number. It was a bit abstract, but cool. Cat Deeley, the announcer for “So You Think You Can Dance” came out onto the stage to welcome our three judges: Adam Hacket, Mary Murphy and Nigel Lythgoe.
Nigel started off the night by wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving, although it is not a British holiday, he still wanted to convey this for all Americans. He then went on to explain how next week, everything will change, that the couples will be split up, and that the results will then be based solely on America’s vote, which will force the couple to create chemistry with a new partner very quickly. Tonight’s show will determine this season’s top ten!
The first two “So You Think You Can Dance” couples who were brought out on stage were: Karen and Victor, and Ashleigh and Jakob, and the first couple in danger for tonight’s show is Karen and Victor. Mary said ” It is really tough. You guys had a rough night, but, both of you have been growing and have amazing talent. Good luck to you both.”
The next two couples were: Mollee and Nathan, and Kathryn and Legacy. Mollee and Nathan were named as the second couple in danger. Adam said perhaps it is because they didn’t connect with the audience last night, or maybe due to her hurt ankle. He feels, however that the couple is too young for each other and need to move on next week to more mature partners to help them grow, if they manage to go through.
And the last two couples Cat Deeley called out on stage were: Ryan and Eleanor, and Noel and Russel. The final couple in danger was Eleanor and Ryan. This was quite a shock, as their performance last night was amazing, and the judges were really not to fond of Russel’s and Noel’s dance routines. Nigel said, “It’s very frustrating because they had a great routine last night. They are tremendous and I am looking forward to your solo dances.”
Paloma Herrera from the American Ballet Company performed a beautiful ballet wearing a black and red tutu. Then “So You Think You Can Dance” moved into its first solo of the evening. Karen danced to the song “She wants to move” by N.E.R.D. She wore a black sequin tube top and black lacy tutu with black boots. The next solo was performed by Victor to the song “Village Attack” by Blood Diamond. He also was dressed all in black. Our third solo of the night was by Mollee in a tight little red suite. She fought for her place to ” Bulletproof” by Le Reux. Nathan came next in black pants and a white t shirt to perform to the song “Going Going Gone” by Stars. I giggled to myself, for the name of this song struck me as an odd choice for someone dancing for their life, and not wanting to be “gone”. For the fifth solo performed tonight on “So You Think You Can Dance”, Eleanor danced beautifully to “Bottom” in a pair of black tights and a blue and white top. And for the last solo of the night, Ryan danced to “Baia Baia Conmeigo”. Nigel, Mary and Adam were then sent backstage to converse while Shakira knocked out the audience with her new hit “Give It Up To Me” As usual she gave a very sensual performance.
After a break, the judges were all back, and Nigel revealed their results. For the girls, he said they were unanimous. To Mollee, he said, “For the first time tonight we watched someone fight for their spot in the top ten.” For Eleanor, he offered, ” The audienced screamed for you, why they didn’t pick up the phione and vote for you we do not know. We cannot think of anything you need to improve on except maybe connecting to the audience.” And finally, he looked to Karen, ” We’ve said many times here on “So You Think You Can Dance” what a fabulous performer you are, however, tonight it felt as if you had given up, thrown in the white flag and just did not give us your best. Tonight was your last solo performance on that stage, we will not be asking you to return.”
Then the guys were brought out. Nigel announced that the judges were NOT unanimous on this decision. To Victor he said, ” You have grown as a person like Kelly Osbourne has on “Dancing With The Stars”. Your performance was terrific. For Ryan he added, “It has been delightful watching you grow, unfortunately it is very hard for you to compete with contemporary solos. If you make it through tonight you really need to work on your solos.”And finally to Nathan, ” You came here a brilliant dancer, and you are still a brilliant dancer. I have not yet seen you grow. I must be honest with you, I wanted you to go home, but the other judges did not agree with me, and so Victor, you are going home. I am sorry, I did not agree with this one.”
So.. the top ten finalist on Season 6 of “So You Think You Can Dance” are: Mollee, Eleanor, Ashleigh, Kathryn, Noel, Nathan, Ryan, Jakob, Legacy and Russell.
