Snow Patrol’s ‘Chasing Cars’ is the most played song of the decade in UK

snow London, Jan 4 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Music licensing body PPL has announced that the Snow Patrol’s 2006 song “Chasing Cars” has been announced as the most played some of the decade in the U.K. according to the music licensing body PPL. This track upon its release was on number six in the U.K. charts and stayed in the top 75 for 94 weeks through its download sales. The figures of the most played song of the decade have been compiled by the number of times it has been played on U.K. radio, TV, online and in public places such as shops.

Patrol frontman and songwriter Gary Lightbody said, “I think that the song has worked because it has an emotion that people can relate to.” “Chasing Cars” became a favorite for many people through its use in TV show including “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Gavin & Stacey.”

British boy band ‘Take That’ had two songs in the top 10 with their 2006 single “Shine” at number 2 and their song “Rule The World” from the movie “Stardust” took the number 6 position. The other songs in the top 10 included the Scissor Sisters song “I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’”, “You’re Beautiful” by James Blunt and “About You Now” from the Sugababes.

The majority of the songs in the top 50 list were from the past decade. However around 11 entries were from previous decades too, that were still amongst the most played songs of the decade. Some of these songs included Thin Lizzy’s “The Boys Are Back In Town” from 1976 and Aretha Franklin’s “Say A Little Prayer” from 1968, which was at number 50.
