Slumdog Millionaire’’s Dev Patel tipped for Best Supporting Actor at SAG awards

London, Dec 19 (ANI): Actor Dev Patel, who made his debut with the highly acclaimed film ”Slumdog Millionaire”, has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 2009 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards.
The 18-year-old actor has already won an award for the best newcomer at British Independent Film Awards.
The movie, narrating the journey of a poor Indian boy who wins a game show fortune has also garnered a nomination in the category of Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
However, Meryl Streep-starrer ”Doubt” has emerged as the main contender after picking up five nominations at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, reports Daily Express.
She is competing for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role against Angelina Jolie for Changeling, Anne Hathaway for Rachel Getting Married, Melissa Leo for Frozen River and Kate Winslet for Revolutionary Road.
Co-stars Amy Adams and Viola Davis will be competing for the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role award while Philip Seymour Hoffman will be battling in the category of Male Actor in Supporting Role.
The film has also earned a nomination in Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
Sean Penn (Milk) and Brad Pitt (The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button) will be competing for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role.
Legendary actor James Earl Jones will be receiving Screen Actors Guild’’s 45th Life Achievement Award
