“Slumdog Millionaire” child actress Rubina Ali loses home in a fire

Mumbai, Mar 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Fire gutted the home of Rubina Ali on Friday. Rubina had played the character of the young Latika in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. Her home was amongst the several others destroyed in the massive fire that swept through a slum suburb in the Indian city of Mumbai.

During an interview after the tragedy, Rubina hinted that she lost several priceless things in the fire including all the pictures that she took at the Oscars. She only managed to save handful of things from the fire.

She told CNN that, “There was fire everywhere, there was so much chaos, my house was completely burned down, the whole slum was burned down.”

Rubina and her family are still living in slums despite the huge success the ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. The movie’s director, Danny Boyle, has set up a trust for all the child-cast in the movie. Rubina and her family would be moving into their new home that the trust would provide later. The home was ready but the family was waiting for electricity and water to be available at the house before moving there.

‘Slumdog Millionaire’ was a huge hit and received several awards including the Oscars.
