September 30, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Recently Google launched its Google Voice service that allowed users to call landlines from their computer at dirt cheap rates. Previously Skype was considered the undisputed monarch in the world of Internet Telephony, Google Voice will surely change that scenario. Not to be outdone by Google, facebook has joined hands with Skype to bring the fight to Google’s turf.

According to a recently published report Facebook and skype are going to announce their new partnership that will allows Facebook users to text, Voice chat and use Facebook connect. Facebook is by far one of the biggest social networking website on the web and the partnership with Skype will increase its features.

Users can now their facebook user id to chat over Skype so they do not need to register separately with Skype. As we know already Google Voice has the user integration feature that allows existing Gmail users to use the feature seamlessly. Rumor has it that the facebook integration will start working with Skype 5 which still in the Beta stage. Skype 5 is due this October and we are sure Facebook will launch the feature somewhere around the same time. Rumor mills have also suggested that the improved Facebook will allow video chats between users. For now let us wait and watch.
