London, Dec 9 (ANI): Sir Elton John is all set to bid adieu to his beloved Versace shirt collection after his partner David Furnish raided his wardrobe for a charity sale.

Elton, 62, rarely wears these shirts, but he has clung to the garments for sentimental reasons following the death of his friend, designer Gianni Versace, in 1997.

But, Furnish, 47, said he had attacked the star’s closet to help raise cash for the Elton John Aids Foundation through the sale.

In the ‘Out The Closet’ sale, opening on December 12, fans would get a chance to purchase one of the silk printed shirts.

‘Some things we’ve been hanging on to - the silk printed Versace shirts for many years Elton said ‘Don’t put those in the sale’ because they’re so redolent of Gianni Versace’s spirit and he was such a great friend,” the Telegraph quoted Furnish as saying.

“But a few of them found their way into the last sale and they just sold so well, and people really liked them, and they’re very collectable for a fan, or for a fan of fashion, so I cleared them all out!’ he added.

Furnish has insisted that it was not hard for him and Elton to let go of their clothes.

‘When you go out into the field and you realise what a difference the money raised makes to people’s lives.

“We have a lot of beautiful clothing in our wardrobe and we can’t wear it all at once, and what’s the point of hanging on to it when other people can enjoy it and it can raise money for charity?

“So ultimately, when you think of it in those terms, it’s an easy decision to make,” he said. (ANI)
