Sir Elton John now eyes Africa for adoption
October 4th, 2009 - 1:04 pm ICT by ANILondon, Oct 4 (ANI): After being banned from adopting a 14-month-old tot by the Ukrainian government, Sir Elton John and partner are considering adopting a boy in Africa.
The musician’s civil partner, David Furnish, disclosed at the launch of Stephen Calloway’s book Gosling: Classic Design for Contemporary Interiors, at the Ritz: “We were in Africa for the [Sir Elton John] Aids Foundation and met a boy, and immediately thought about adopting him,”
“When we found out he had a maternal grandmother, and brother and sister, we realised it wouldn’t be the right thing to take him away from the family he had there,” he said.
The pair, who “married” in a civil partnership ceremony in Windsor in 2005, have decided that they will not challenge the government in Kiev after one of its ministers said that 62-year-old Sir Elton was too old to adopt and that it did not allow homosexuals to do so, reports The Telegraph.
“We would love to adopt Lev, but that does not seem possible under Ukrainian rules,” said Furnish. (ANI)
