George Michael London, Oct 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) George Michael has been released from jail after serving just half the sentence that was slapped on him for driving under the influence of drugs.

The pop star was released four weeks earlier than he should have. He was serving time in an English jail for the offense.

The 27-year-old star was jailed for 8 weeks after authorities realized that he was on cannabis when he crashed his car into a photography shop.

He was taken to the Pentonville Prison before being transferred to the Highpoint Prison after just few days. He served the remainder of his sentence at the facility until his release this morning.

The star is out of prison but his court sentence is not served because the star has been banned from driving for five years in the England. He was also fined nearly $2,000 for his offense.

Michael released a statement from his prison facility last week that he was treated kindly by both inmates and guards alike at the facility. The statement was as a result of media reports earlier this month that the star was being maltreated and bullied behind bars.

He was lucky to have served the minimum sentence ever for the charge that got him to prison.
