Singer Chitra’s daughter drowned in Dubai
April 14th, 2011 - 7:02 pm ICT by IANSThiruvananthapuram, April 14 (IANS) Singer K.S. Chitra’s eight-year-old daughter Nandana drowned in a swimming pool in Dubai Thursday morning, according to sources close to the family in Kerala.
The girl’s body would be brought here, sources said.
Chitra, 47, popularly known as “South Indian Nightingale”, and her family were in Dubai to take part in a stage show later in the day.
In January, she completed three decades as a playback singer. The singer has rendered more than 15,000 songs in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Oriya, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali and Punjabi films.
Her husband Vijaya Shankar is an engineer and it was in January this year that they moved into their new home here.
She has won six National Film Awards (in four different languages), five Filmfare Awards and more than 30 different state film awards.
