Los Angeles, Apr 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Singer Annie Lennox made a huge statement when she wore a t-shirt that said, ‘HIV Positive’. However it also raised a lot of questions whether the singer is suffering from the disease or not. She was wearing the t-shirt on ‘Idol Gives Back’ show.
Later the former “Eurthymics” singer was forced to clear the air about the buzzing questions and her t-shirt, and the speculation that she might be ill. She said very candidly that she is not ill with HIV. But she added in a serious vein that other people are ill, and this was her attempt to raise the awareness for them. She also divulged that around 22 million in Africa are presently HIV positive. She was showing her solidarity with the 22 million HIV sufferers because it is very hard to publicly state your HIV positive status to the world. Annie said that, “I can tell you the good news is actually I am not. However, many people are. In fact, 22 million in sub-Saharan Africa are currently HIV positive. And I am wearing this in solidarity with them because it’s very hard when you are HIV positive to be open about your status and to be able to tell your family and your friends.”
