Sigourney Weaver: James Cameron Lost Oscar For Being A Man
April 14th, 2010 - 3:27 am ICT by Angela Kaye MasonApr 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The very glamorous, very outspoken Hollywood star, Sigourney Weaver has launched her own verbal war against the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. According to the “New York Post”, the well known star of “Alien” and, of course, James Cameron’s “Avatar” she feels that the only reason James Cameron did not win the Oscar was because “he didn’t have breasts.”
Weaver told reporters that she believes that the real reason why Cameron lost out to his ex wife, Kathryn Bigelow, who directed the winning movie, “The Hurt Locker” was because the Academy wanted to make history and name it’s first ever female Best Director. “Jim didn’t have breasts, and I think that was the reason,” Weaver told Brazilian news site Folha Online over the weekend. “He should have taken home that Oscar.”
Weaver added: “In the past, ‘Avatar’ would have won because they (Oscar voters) loved to hand out awards to big productions, like ‘Ben-Hur.’ Today it’s fashionable to give the Oscar to a small movie that nobody saw.” The Cameron directed “Avatar” grossed 743.7 million dollars in the United States, and 2.7 billion in the world. The Kathryn Bigelow directed “The Hurt Locker” took in 16 million in the United States, and only 40 million in the world.
