Signed Potter books raise PS7,000 for rugby clubJanuary 17th, 2008 - 4:15 pm ICT by admin
London, Jan 17(ANI): Author JK Rowling has donated a set of seven signed Harry Potter books to raise funds for Portobello Rugby Club in Edinburgh.
The unique set of books has raised nearly 7,000 pounds at an auction for the club, which was destroyed by fire in May 2007.
Auctioneer Lyon and Turnbull expected the books to fetch at least 3,000 pounds when they go under the hammer but the set sold for more than twice the amount at 6,960 pounds.
The funds will be used to restore the club, which is reported to have lost archives in the fire.
Iain Goodall, club president, said that Rowling decided to raise funds for the club after hearing about the fire through a pal, who is a rugby club committee member.
He said that the amount was unexpected for the club, which will now be able to rebuild itself.
“We lost everything in the fire. All the memorabilia since the club was formed in 1930 was lost, the Daily Snack quoted Goodall, as saying.
“We only had two photographs remaining - one from 1931 and one from 1967. Every trophy, every plaque we had is gone,” he added. (ANI)
