June 4, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Sitar maestro Ustad Shujaat Husain Khan has aptly maintained the legacy of his legendary father Ustad Vilayat Khan. He has performed with many international orchestras and has come up with some memorable music albums too.

But, the Grammy nominated sitar player has never composed for any of the Bollywood films. Debutant director Pravesh Bharadwaj has been very lucky to be able to convince Ustad Shujaat Husain Khan to compose music for his first film Mr Singh and Mrs Mehta. With this film, Khan is making his Bollywood debut and will also lend his voice to a song “E Khuda’.

His father, Ustad Vilayat Khan had composed music for the legend Satyajit Ray’s movie Jalsaghar.

Shujaat agreed to enter the recording studio, when the director Pravesh approached him with a request to recreate the magic of 80s for his film. The result is, five heart touching ghazals penned by Amitabh Varma, which are sure to provide a new lease of life to the movie.

Shujaat Hussain Khan said, “Many filmmakers had approached me earlier with the request to compose music for their films. But, I did not accept the offers as they wanted me to compose item numbers showing no respect for my kind of music. But when Pravesh came to me, I liked his offer as he wanted me compose the kind of music I am known for. I hope people like my music.”

The film starring Aruna Shields and Prashant Narayanan is scheduled to release on the 25th of June.
