Shrinivas Joshi- The next Pt. Bhimsen Joshi in the making

Saregama, one of the biggest music archive in India recently presented a mesmerizing a live musical concert of “Kanan Daras Karo” by Shrinivas Joshi, son of Hindustani classical music maestro Pandit Bhimsen Joshi in front of a large audience in Mumbai.
“Kanan Daras Karo” was an attempt to define Pt. Bhimsen Joshi’s persona and his music through the bandishes composed by his disciple and son Shrinivas Joshi. The bandishes from ‘Kanan Daras Karo’ reflect musical thoughts and expressions of eminent personalities like Ustad Vilayat Khan, Vijay Tendulkar, Mangesh Padgaonkar and Ramubhaiyya Date. This was a thematic classical vocal concert by Shrinivas Joshi who was a creator, lyricist, composer, presenter and comparer of this unique concert. Some of the noted attendees of this program were Ajay Ambekar (Cultural Director of Maharashtra State Cultural Affairs), Mr. Ashok Patki (Music Director) and Pandit Ram Narayan (Sarangi Samrat).
Shrinivas’s contribution to music has brought him endless appreciation from the music fraternity. Shrinivas Joshi has received various awards and accolades like Dattopant Deshpande Puraskar Award and Gaanasaraswati Award. He has also composed various music albums like Sukh Anupam, Marathi Abhang, Bhaktabhilasha, Hindi Bhajans, etc.
Shrinivas has been trained in Kirana style in which the Bhava or essence of the song is expressed with utmost understanding and intense emotion. Shrinivas is the last disciple of the Kirana Gharana doyen Bhimsen Joshi, the disciple of the legendary Sawai Gandharva, who himself received the gifted guidance of Ustaad Abdul Karim Khan, one of the founders of the Kirana Gharana. This valuable Guruparampara has had a deep impact on Shrinivas’s music.
Saregama India Ltd. also honored Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi by launching “The Complete Works- Pt. Bhimsen Joshi” -a 14 CDs prestigious pack. This pack holds his entire works comprising of his early, rare and unique recordings in Hindustani Classical music as well as Marathi, Hindi and Kannada music that have made him the most popular vocalist over the last six decades. On this auspicious moment, Pandit Ramnarayan said, “Pt. Bhimsen Joshi’s music is like Kirtan and one should listen with bhakti. I’m very happy that Saregama launched this masterpiece album as music has deteriorated over the years.”
