The American and Canadian co-produced television drama, ‘The L Word’, was originally shown on Showtime from 2004 to 2009. It portrayed the lives of a group of lesbians, bisexual and transgender people and their family, friend circle and lovers in the trendy Los Angeles city area of West Hollywood, California.
The new reality show version of the show will follow the lives of six lesbians in Los Angeles. Creator Ilene Chaiken said that, “Even though we concluded our sixth season of The L Word on Showtime this past March, I believe we are not nearly finished telling our L Word stories.”
Showtime is yet to finalize the casting for the show which is said to be the USP of the show. Chaiken will co produce the show with Jane Lipsitz of Magical Elves, which has produced episodes for several other reality series, including Project Runway, Top Chef: Masters, and Treasure Hunter in past and Dan Cutforth.
Commenting on the involvement of Magical Elves, Liptiz said that this is an unexplored area vis-à-vis reality television and that they would like to tell authentic stories about such complex characters.
‘The Real L Word’ series premiere is set for Sunday, June 20th at 10 p.m. on Showtime, and will continue to have that time slot for its first season.
