Sheryl Crow to pen Diner musical

New York, Sept 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Sheryl Crow has reportedly agreed to pen the songs for the Broadway work of Barry Levinson’s 1982 piece “Diner.” According to a report by the New York Times, Crow has been handed a deal that includes writing the lyrics for the musical work of the piece.

This is the first time that Crow will be directing a musical piece. The singer whose work includes soundtracks on movies like “Bee Movie” and “Point Break” spoke about the task that she has been given when she spoke to the NYT.

The newspaper reported the former elementary school teacher as saying that, “I was already a huge fan of ‘Diner’ when Barry first approached me about writing a score for a theatrical retelling of his film. I knew exactly who these men and women were and I feverishly began writing.”

In 1982, Levinson’s career as a screenplay writer was greatly influenced by the success of the movie. Levinson had an Oscar for the movie and that launched him to the next level. He was given the contract to direct “Good Morning, Vietnam” and “Rain Man.”

The musical will be directed by Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall. The piece is owned by Base Entertainment. The production house has not announced where musical will be held.
