weekAug 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Discovery Channel’s long running series “Shark Week” is all set to return today for its 2010 edition. The annual program on the channel which spans across one week and showcases fascinating stories about sharks would begin with the one-hour special ‘Ultimate Air Jaws” which is scheduled to be aired today. Needless to say that the ardent viewers of the show are eagerly waiting to catch a glimpse of the show which kicks off its 23rd season tonight.

In order to mark the 10th anniversary of the hit feature, officials of Discovery Channel decided to initiate the 23rd season with ‘Ultimate Air Jaws’ where the show takes the viewers back to the coast of South Africa where white whales propel themselves on air to launch a vicious attack on the thousands of seals that gather over there. This phenomenon was explored by the show for the very first time in ‘Airs Jaws’ which premiered on the channel about ten years ago. For this year’s series, Jeff Kurr who is the producer of the program decided to go back to the scene with the aim of knowing more about the aerial attacks with high-powered equipments. In the mission, Jeff Kurr is accompanied by shark expert Chris Fallows while the team also seeks the help of a submarine and a helicopter to capture some spectacular footage of the sharks in action.

The week-long series aired on the Discovery Channel for the very first time way back in the year 1985. Since then owing to the wide-ranging subjects that it showcases about sharks, the program has been successful in garnering widespread accolades from the viewers.
