Shanty Creek Resort has been in news recently because it had organized an “Iron Chef”-style competition from 24th to 26th April, 2009. The competition featured a Northern vs. Southern Michigan Competition along with a number of other culinary seminars and workshops. All the chefs from the Michigan culinary industry gave in their best to make the program a success. This was the first Annual Chef’s Challenge for Challenge Mountain event. The foodies could not ask for more because they got good food and good drinks simultaneously.

Chef Michelle Bommarito, a frequent guest on the Food Network and Chef Eric Villegas of “Fork in the Road” TV fame was the Event Judge & Iron-Chef MC. The other judges for the show were Chef Hermann Suhs of Hermann’s in Cadillac, Michael Estes, Traverse City Mayor and Rick Coates of Northern Express. The chefs were divided into fourteen teams, eight belonging to the “North” and six belonging to the “South.” The audience and the guest judges chose the winners of The Taste of Michigan challenge. The winners then competed for the cook off challenge in the evening. The executive chef at Shanty Creek Resort, Andrew Reh, was the host of the Chef’s Challenge.

In the evening, the teams with four members each had to create as many courses as they could within the time span of one hour. The event was quite fun as all the competitors were churning out wonderful recipes. Shanty Creek Resort is famous for their innovative ideas through which they attract their customers.
