haiti April 13, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Columbian pop superstar, Shakira, has journeyed to the Caribbean nation of Haiti that was ravaged and destroyed recently by a devastating earthquake. The earthquake liquidated millions of individuals and left more than a million without a roof over their heads. Shakira interacted with the child survivors of the January earthquake, who have been residing in provisional tents.

Shakira enunciated that her Barefoot Foundation will function in concert with the Humanity charity to construct a school in the region. She also deemed that, apart from instantaneous aid, what Haiti requires is a long-standing renovation.

Shakira divulged, “For this reason, we are doing our small bit to help Haiti rebuild and give the children affected by this disaster the chance to learn and thrive”. The school will make available education, nourishment and therapy for the children who have been left distressed by the earthquake.

In the past, Shakira had inaugurated a $6 million school in her hometown, Barranquilla, which was subsidized by her foundation. She wishes to utilize her experience of school building in Barranquilla in a manner that benefits Haiti.

Shakira came into view as a musical phenomenon in the music scene of Latin America in the early 1990s. Her 2001 album, ‘Laundry Service’, sold over 13 million copies and the track ‘Whenever Whenever’ became an instant hit. She purportedly contributes approximately $55000 to charity per annum and was ranked 48 by OK magazine in the list of ‘Top 50 Most Charitable Celebrities.’
