Nov 8, (THAINDIAN NEWS) For those kids who have been waiting long for yet another buddy comedy, here is a good news for them. After the popularity of “Hannah Montana” and “Sonny With a Chance,” Disney channel is back again with yet another original series, “Shake It Up”, that was premiered yesterday.
The show is about two best friends, Ce Ce Jones and Rocky Blues, played by Bella Thorne and Zendaya, who aspire to become professional dancers. They finally see their dreams coming true when the hottest dance competition, “Shake It Up Chicago,” comes to their town for an audition. Gary Marsh, president of entertainment and chief creative officer for Disney Channels Worldwide said that this is not the first time that the channel is experimenting with buddy comedy shows, targeting at the female audience, but the main USP of “Shake It Up” is, it has a significant incorporation of dancing into the underlying premise of a sitcom. He said that dance is something that has been growing in its popularity for the last few years, with the various well received dance oriented reality shows around, That is why, it was a good time to offer something like “Shake It Up”. The two young new comers Bella Thorne and Zendaya are doing a great job and are quite like able.
However, after the premiere of the first episode, it became quite clear that the show is not worth the hype. Although the concept of the show sounds very promising, Disney ultimately could not come out of the cliche and failed to deliver what was expected out of it. The problem with the show was the acting, which is marked with exaggerated actions and unnecessary facial expressions. The show seems to lack the punches and surprises like “Hannah Montana”, although the two characters have an appealing style.
