‘Shakal Pe Mat Ja’ a tale of mistaken identities (IANS Preview)
November 14th, 2011 - 4:25 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 14 (IANS) After a not-so-successful stint as an actress, Hrishitaa Bhatt has turned producer and her maiden venture, a comedy called “Shakal Pe Mat Ja”, a tale of mistaken identities, is releasing Friday.
The small-budget drama, co-produced by Hrishitaa and Linc Entertainment, has been written and directed by Shubh Mukherjee, who also makes his acting debut with the film.
Saurabh Shukhla, Raghubir Yadav, Aamna Sharif, Zakhir Hussain, Umang Jain and Chitrak Bandyopadhyay form the movie’s cast.
Hrishitaa, however, is not be acting in her production venture.
“Shakal Pe Mat Ja” brings to the screen a story of four young boys who are taken into custody after they are caught recording on their handycam an American Airlines aircraft landing at the Delhi international airport.
The foursome defend themselves saying that the footage is for a documentary they are making, but their arguments go down the drain.
They are taken into custody and sent for interrogation. They are questioned and everything they say, do or possess drives them deeper into trouble.
The footage of the boys at Rashtrapati Bhavan; the Arabic and Pakistani porn film in Rohan’s bag; a bomb like device in Dhruv’s bag, which is actually his physics project; or the fact that Bulai looks similar to a most wanted terrorist but doesn’t have an ID card or even a cellphone to prove himself innocent — all this goes against them.
While all this is going on, news comes that a group of terrorists is planning an attack.
Interestingly, director Shubh, a former student of ace choreographer Shiamak Davar, insisted he choreograph a song in the film and his mentor readily agreed. Shiamak has choreographed promotional track called “Meharban”, composed by Salim-Sulaiman.
If the protagonists in the movie had trouble with the authorities, the makers too found themselves in trouble after censor board objected to some of the dialogues in the promos.
However, the good part is that “Shakal Pe Mat Jaa” has been selected for screening at the South Asian International Film Festival (SAIFF) in New York.
Originally slated for a Sep 23 release, the film got postponed to Nov 4. Now it is finally hitting the screens Nov 18.
“Shakal Pe Mat Jaa” is well-known television actress Aamna Sharif’s third big screen outing after “Aloo Chat” and “Aao Wish Karien”. But both the films failed to boost her movie career.
