Sex Pistols to sue ice-cream firm over ‘God Save the Cream’ strapline?
October 15th, 2009 - 2:52 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Washington, Oct 15 (ANI): Brit punk rock band Sex Pistols has threatened a London-based ice-cream company with legal action over an ad campaign they insist looks like their icon on their ‘God Save The Queen’ record sleeve.
Ice cream company Icecreamists had come up with the idea of using punk artist Jamie Reid’s design, adding the tagline ‘God Save The Cream’ to sell the brand.
In the online ads, a picture of the Queen backed by a Union Jack flag, with an ice cream spoon in her mouth can be seen.
The band sent a cease and desist letter to Icecreamists, and their lawyers have insisted the company stop using Sex Pistols influences to advertise their products.
The threat has however left Icecreamists founder Matt O’Connor puzzled.
“We are a bit dumbfounded that a group that made its reputation for being banned is trying to ban one of our ice creams,” Contactmusic quoted him as saying.
Ironically, Icecreamists offer an absinthe-based ice-cream cocktail called the Sex Pistol. (ANI)
