Bengali film industry is going to have a great week in the beginning of February as the industry will see the release of seven films on February 4. There was a time when viewers of Bengali films became limited but with the increase in the number of films and improvement in qualitative films, have again got back its loyal viewers and added some new generation fans too.
Among the seven films to be released on February 4, three have been directed by Bappaditya, Parambrata and Shekhar. Parambrata’s directorial venture Jiyo Kaka, Shekhar Das’ Necklace and Bappaditya Bandopadhyay’s Kagojer Bou will compete with four other films.
The main reason behind this big clash is the upcoming election and World Cup series that will divert attention of lots of viewers. So, if the filmmakers want to postpone their releases, they will not get much attention. Shekhar, who got his film censored on August 31, stated that he finalized the date to distributors much before in July. He was asked to wait for January to release his film and finally he decided to release it on February 4. He added that many films, which were censored much later than his film, are also releasing on the same day, so he is very disappointed.
Parambrata has a different take on this and says that cine goers can watch three Bengali films in a week these days. He considers Shekhar like a father figure as he has worked with him in Kaaler Rakhal. He added that he would love to postpone the date but it is not possible now due to the World Cup and election. Moreover, the next week is filled with a big banner film like Bye Bye Bangkok, which will be a tough challenge for him to face.
So, it will be interesting to watch which film wins the final race on February 4.
