`Sesame Street’ channel cleansed of porn put by hackers
October 18th, 2011 - 11:45 am ICT by IANSWashington, Oct 18 (IANS/EFE) The “Sesame Street” channel on YouTube slowly got back to normal Monday morning after hackers put porn videos in place of kiddies’ beloved Muppets.
“We apologise for any inconvenience our audience may have experienced yesterday on our Sesame Street YouTube channel,” the company that produces the children’s show, Sesame Workshop, said in a statement.
“Our channel was compromised and we are presently working with YouTube/Google to restore our original content,” Sesame Workshop said. “We always strive to provide age-appropriate content for our viewers and hope to resolve this problem quickly.”
The alarm was sounded by media in different parts of the country, and CNN said that the page was withdrawn from YouTube Sunday afternoon.
KGO-TV, an ABC affiliate in San Francisco, said that one of the pornographic films lasted eight minutes, but none of the videos of that kind included “Sesame Street” characters.
Gizmodo, a web site that specializes in technology and Internet, said that the hackers “replaced Muppet clips with graphic porn”.
“It apparently took Google more than 20 minutes to react to the hack, which means porn was floating around on the iconic children’s TV show channel,” Gizmodo said.
