Los Angeles, Feb 22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Teen sensation Selena Gomez has revealed that she was not among the popular girls in school. During an insightful interview with the Daily Mail, the singer revealed that she grew up as a loner because she never had many friends as a child.

She said that, “I was never the popular kid at school. I had two friends, but I just sat at the back of the room and got on with my work… School is such an awkward time in your life I was never confident in school. Nobody picked on me because my cousin was one of popular gang.”

The 19-year-old has grown out of it to become one of the most popular teen stars currently. Her relationship with singer Justin Bieber has also contributed to Gomez staying in the public notice.

Despite the success that she seems to have chalked as Disney star and singer, Gomez says she still faces several challenges in the entertainment world. She admitted that negative remarks and rejection is one of the worst nightmares of every performer but the secret to beating that is by ignoring.

According to her, there are a lot of people in the industry who are bent on bringing her down but she stays strong and that seems to have been working for her so far.
