Sean Connery and Wife Investigated for Tax Fraud
July 16th, 2010 - 10:13 pm ICT by Angela Kaye MasonJuly 16 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Sean Connery, Oscar winning actor who has starred in everything from “James Bond” movies to ‘A League of Extraordinary Gentleman’ and many things in between, is being investigated, along with his wife, Micheline Roquebrune on suspicion of tax evasion after the sale of property in Malaga.
Investigators believe that a property firm which is connected to the seventy-nine year old actor neglected to pay 2 million dollars in taxes after Connery sold off the land and villa in 1999. The report was made by the Spanish newspaper known as ‘Sur’.
Those unpaid taxes came from the transaction in which the developmental rights of the land which is located on the outskirts of the Mediterranean resort of Malaga were sold. Connery was also named back in May in a separate money laundering scheme investigation which involved the sale of the luxury seaside villa near Marbella.
The villa, named “Malibu”, was sold for about 9 million dollars. It was torn down, and a four story luxury apartment complex was built which contained 72 units. The sell was in 1999 and the apartments were built in 2004-2005. Planning rules for the site, however, stated that only five homes were allowed to be built there.
