screenJan 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The 2010 Screen Actors Guild Awards took place on the Jan 23, 2010. This was the 16th installment of the awards. Most of the recipients of the awards at the Screen Actors Guild were nearly the same as those at the Annual Golden Globe Awards. However, the ceremony, or rather the nominations, posed a surprise, on account of the fact that the blockbuster epic film “Avatar” was conspicuously absent from the list of nominations. In fact, it is this aspect that has still left observers guessing as to how the Academy Awards might turn out. For some of the actors, it was the first time that they had won the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Avatar was not present in any of the categories in the Screen Actors Guild Awards, despite the fact that it had won in the category of best picture in the Golden Globe Awards, as it mainly features digital characters, computer generated. With the absence of Avatar, the award for the Outstanding Performance By A Cast In A Motion Picture went to “Inglourious Basterds.” As had been expected, Sandra Bullock and Jeff Bridges won in the categories of Outstanding Performance By A Female and Male Actor In A Leading Role respectively, for “The Blind Side” and “Crazy Heart”.

Christoph Waltz yet again won on the category of Outstanding Performance Of A Male Actor In A Supporting Role, and Mo’Nique for the Female Actor, for their roles on “Inglourious Basterds” and “Precious” respectively. Michael C. Hall took home the award for the Best actor in a Drama Series, for his reprisal of Dexter. The other winners in the various categories were Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, Kevin Bacon and Drew Barrymore among others.
