Scottish Singer And Songwriter Gerry Rafferty Dies At 63

gJan 5, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Highly acclaimed singer and songwriter Gerry Rafferty breathed his last at his home in Dorset, southern England. His representative, Paul Charles confirmed the news to the media. Gerry Rafferty’s daughter Martha was at his bedside at the time of his death. He was 63 years old. Apart from his daughter, Gerry Rafferty is survived by his granddaughter Celia and brother Jim. His family has not yet announced his funeral arrangements but a source close to his family told a reputed media source that his funeral will be held in Paisley.

Gerry Rafferty is best remembered for his classics like “Baker Street” and “Stuck in the Middle With You” which received much appreciation from the listeners. However, the later years of his career was overshadowed by his alcohol problems and his rough behavior. Last November, he was admitted to a hospital in Bournemouth, after he suffered a liver problem. His wife Carla left him in the year 1990 as she could not cope up with the drinking habit of the singer. In one of her earlier interviews, she said that she feels there is no hope as Gerry Rafferty does not have any chance of recovering from his drinking habits.

Radio presenter Paul Gambaccini expressed his condolence and called his demise an “unhappy end”. Music presenter Tom Robinson also expressed his condolence and said that Gerry Rafferty will be greatly missed by everyone. He also stated that he is deeply saddened to hear that Gerry Rafferty lost his battle with his failing health. He also said that the singer’s song with “Stealers Wheel” had been an inspiration to all the songwriters of 1970’s.
