Scott McIntyre In Fresh Controversy

American Idol contestant and pianist Scott McIntyre Viewers and media critics voiced concerns that American Idol contestant and pianist Scott McIntyre was being judged on sympathetic grounds because of his visually impaired status. He had some pitchy moments when he performed Bruce Hornsby’s “Mandolin Rain” on the show last week but none of the judges had spoken to him about it unlike they usually do with other contestants.

Even Simon Cowell, who comes down on the contestants rather heavily on most occasions had said, “In a sea of forgettable people, you’ll be the only one I remember.”

Viewers however were not so sympathetic as they begin wondering when Scott will get any honest feedback at all. McIntyre has won awards as a classical pianist and has released six albums already but viewers now ask, “So why do the four Idol judges patronize him by withholding all the negative feedback they’d give to any other contestant who wasn’t blind?”

A website about American Idol where people are invited to vote for the worst performer said “Scott definitely was treated differently than the other finalists because he’s blind. Not necessarily because they feel bad for him, but because the show wants that storyline in their top.”

However MSNBC.com media critic Courtney Hazlett came to the show’s rescue refuting that there can be any conspiracy on American Idol because it is the viewers who choose the outcome. She said, “It’s really hard for me to get behind the conspiracy theories, especially when we’re talking about a show like ‘American Idol’ where America is making the decisions.”
