New Delhi, Feb 3 (IANS) He came, he spoke and he conquered! Hollywood action man Arnold Schwarzenegger may have visited the capital just for a day but his generosity and warmth overwhelmed his fans who met him at the 12th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit.
“We have been following him and his movement for a long time. He is very passionate towards his work. He was very generous and listened to people very attentively. The actor has left his star status behind long back and has beautifully moulded himself in this form,” a woman delegate, who didn’t wish to be named, told IANS Thursday.
Schwarzenegger has no starry airs and it was quite evident when he was going up to each and every person and introducing himself, said Rajiv Chhibber, manager, corporate communications TERI.
“You would not see any star of his stature going and introducing himself to people. He personally went up to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and shook hand with him and was seen talking at length with him. I haven’t seen him getting irked or angry even once during his visit,” he said.
“During the PM’s speech I was asked to man the photographers who were desperate to take photos of the star while sitting in the front row. To keep the shutterbugs away I was blocking the view of Schwarzenegger. But instead of being angry, he very politely asked me to sit alongside him,” he said.
The “Terminator” star has a huge fan following in India. From the volunteers to the delegates - all the people present at the Summit were desperate to get a glimpse and click pictures with the 64-year-old Hollywood star.
“I am a huge fan of Arnold, he’s so handsome even at this age. I got a chance get a photo clicked with him and I am really excited,” said one of the woman volunteers.
“Unlike many of our Bollywood stars, he was very gracious and didn’t disappoint his admirers. He readily agreed to get clicked with them, even asking which angle would be right for taking the photo,” said Chibber.
During the leisure time, Schwarzenegger was seen smoking cigar on the poolside of Taj Palace while being surrounded by his bodyguards.
“He is an amazing human being,” says Annapurna Vancheswaran, director sustainability development outreach TERI, who has been with the superstar ever since he landed in Delhi.
“You would rarely find a human being as generous and cordial as Arnold Schwarzenegger. He is an amazingly down-to-earth man with no starry airs. He is not at all finicky like other celebrities. Whatever he speaks, he speaks from his heart,” said Vancheswaran.
