Austin, Texas, Sep 2, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The huge popularity that the 1939 epic movie “Gone with the Wind” enjoys among its ardent fans even today was proved recently when a Texas museum urged people across the country to make donations so that the gown that actress Vivian Leigh wore in the flick can be restored. Although the museum officials were desperately hoping that the appeal would ring a bell among all the die-hard fans of the legendary movie, they were surely in for a pleasant surprise when the target which was set for the campaign was raised within just three weeks!
Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas had appealed to people to donate money so that the target of $30,000 can be achieved which would be used to restore the dresses that were worn by leading lady Vivian Leigh who edged the role of the protagonist, Scarlett O’Hara in the highly acclaimed film. The response that the museum got in return was nothing short of astounding as just within a period of three weeks, people contributed enough to raise the target figure. While talking about the spectacular response that it had been successful in achieving, officials of the museum revealed that more than 600 people hailing from 44 states across the country as well as 13 other nations pledged their support to the cause.
In a statement that has been issued, Steve Wilson who is the curator of the Harry Ransom Center pointed out that the generous donations that have been made by the fans ascertains the fact that they indeed care a lot about it.
