Sasha Baron Cohen to star as Freddie Mercury

Los Angeles, Sep 19 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Sasha Baron Cohen is all set to portray the character of Freddie Mercury in an upcoming film. In the past too, he has been instrumental in portraying Ali G and Borat and has undoubtedly done a marvelous job at that.
Queen’s guitarist Brian May said that, “We have Sasha Baron Cohen, which will probably be a shock to a lot of people, but he’s been talking with us for a long time.” The movie is said to be collaboration between GK Films and Robert De Niro’s company – Tribeca. Peter Morgan of the ‘The Last King of Scotland’, ‘The Queen’ and the ‘Frost/Nixon’ fame has also written the script of the Freddie Mercury movie.
According to reports, the film would showcase the doings of the band prior to their performance at Live Aid in the 1980’s.
Freddie Mercury’s real name was Farrokh Bulsara and he was perhaps the first celebrity who died from AIDS. He contracted the disease during the nascent days of the AIDS epidemic. And thus he also kept mum about the disease and the media hounded him unmercifully during the last few days of his life. Finally he was forced to announce his AIDS affliction and ironically he died within a day of the announcement.
