arkansasThe 23 year old Sarah Slocum has been the one among teeming number of beauties who managed to walk away with the coveted crown and the title on the Miss Arkansas 2009 event. She received her crown from the outgoing Miss Arkansas, Ashlen Batson of Newark.

The beauty pageant contest was held on Saturday evening, July 18, at Summit Arena in Hot Springs in front of a strong gathering of almost 2,000 people. The newly crowned Slocum is going to represent Arkansas in the 2010 Miss America pageant that is scheduled to be held in Las Vegas next year. She had entered the beauty competition as Miss Ouachita River.

Saturday’s winning of the title entitles Slocum to a scholarship of $20,000 that has been provided by Ted and Shannon Boy Skokos; along with various accompaniments like awards, the wardrobe, gifts and transportation that amounts to a measurable $50,000.

Slocum is a second year law undergraduate student at the University of Central Arkansas. She has graduated from the Sheridan High School in the year 2004. In the talents presentation round at the pageant, she had sang the song “The Prayer.” When asked about her aims for seeking the platform, Slocum said that it was in order to pave the way and also to arouse an encouragement for higher education. She will be making appearances all over in an effort to promote the Children’s Miracle Network and will also be duly speaking for the goals of the Miss Arkansas as well as the Miss America beauty pageants.

Almost $75,800 were given out as scholarship money to the participating candidates for the Saturday night’s event.
