Dec 21, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The acapella singing competition, “The Sing-Off” season 2, concluded yesterday on NBC, after choosing the winner of the competition, “Committed”. However, it seemed that more than anyone else, it was the guests on the show, who grabbed the limelight. Renowned guest artists like Sara Bareilles, Sheryl Crow, Nicole Scherzinger, Boyz II Men, and Neil Diamond pumped up the spirit of the show with their spectacular performances. Each of the competing bands performed with one of these celebrity guests to make the evening special for themselves. Sara Bareilles accompanied the “Backbeats”, one of the four finalists, while they sang “King Of Anything”.
“Backbeats” is a band that hails from southern California, and has been created by the stars of the cappella circuit of their college. The group consists of only women, who indulge in emotional ballads and intricate foot tapping choreography, unlike the other bands in the finale. Their performance accompanied by Sara Bareilles was immensely interesting as well as entertaining. “Committed” competed against the two other finalists, namely, “Street Corner Symphony” from Nashville, and “Jerry Lawson and Talk of the Town”. The grand prize delighted Alabama, as their six-membered band, bagged a contract of $100,000 along with the “Sing Off” trophy. The first runner up of the competition was “Street Corner Symphony”. The winner was announced by Nick Lachey, the host of the program.
Finally the winner “Committed” and the first runner, up “Street Corner Symphony”, grooved the audiences with their solo on “Hold My Hand,” and “Fix You” respectively. “Committed” is a church band, and surprisingly, they never made a performance together, before their appearance in “The Sing-Off.” Despite their apparent inexperience, they managed to bag the trophy, by establishing itself as the best band of the season.
