July 6, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): India’s most proficient cinematographer-turned-filmmaker is all set to make a bilingual film based on the assassination of Vasco Da Gama. The film titled as “Urumi’ will be simultaneously shot in Tamil and Malayalam. It will feature with South India’s heartthrob Prithviraj and cherubic Genelia D’Souza in lead roles.
Known for making the best international projects including his magnum opus “Terrorist’, “Navarasa’, “Tahaan’ and “Beyond the Rains’, Santhosh Sivan has donned the lead role of the painter, prince Ravi Varma in Lenin Rajendran’s Malayalam movie “Makkara Manju’.
Santosh Sivan admits that the film is set in the backdrop of the 15th century and is about a group of men, who wanted to assassinate Vasco Da Gama for his cruel deeds. Prithviraj enacts the role of the group’s leader while Genelia D’ Souza takes on the role of a Portugal Princess. Winning rave reviews for his stunningly brilliant cinematography in Manirathnam’s “Raavanan’, Santhosh Sivan strongly believes that “Urumi’ will be liked by the global audiences as he has tried including unknown facts about the explorer.
