Sandra BullockJan 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The 16th yearly Screen Actors Guild Awards brought a mix of surprise and disappointments for the viewers. It was held in Saturday evening. As the viewers expected the actors and directors who won in several categories in the recently held Golden Globe Awards continued their success story in the Screen Actors Guild Awards. This year is likely to be a good one for actress Sandra Bullock. She shared the best actress award in the Golden Globe with Meryl Streep. In the Screen Actors Guild Awards she also managed to win the best actress award. The lady was visibly elated when her name was announced. She said she was overwhelmed and could not express her feeling in words.

However, it was quite surprising and disappointing to see that James Cameron’s n3D magnum opus Avatar which mesmerized the global movie lovers with its spell of CGI and visual effects went almost unnoticed in the 16th yearly Screen Actors Guild Awards. It swept two major awards at The Golden Globe including the best picture award. The acting guild decided to keep it aside possibly due to the fact the attraction of the movie lies mainly in the computer generated effects and characters. Therefore, the award for the best picture went to the latest Quentin Tarantino movie, “Inglourious Basterds”.

Christoph Waltz, an Australian actor who shot to fame post his act in the film bagged the award for the best supporting actor. It might boost his chances for winning an academy award. The other actors who shone in the evening include Drew Barrymore, Alec Baldwin and Betty White.
