sandraLos Angeles, Mar 8, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Oscars this year was very much like the other award ceremonies that had taken place. The winners, barring a few exceptions, were more or less expected, and turned out as per the expectations. As was being predicted by observers, the award for the Best Actress went to Sandra Bullock, for her outstanding performance in the John Lee Hancock directorial venture “The Blind Side.” This win makes Sandra Bullock the proud owner of three awards in all, the golden statuette of the Oscars, the Golden Globe and the Screen Actors Guild Award.

Ironically, Sandra Bullock is also the not so proud winner of the Golden Raspberry Award, which she won, in the same category, for the comedy “All About Steve.” In fact, she had personally gone to pick up the award just the night before the Oscars. There was no such chance in the Oscars, though. Up on the stage to receive the award for the best actress, looking gorgeous in an embroidered sheer gown, the actress went on to thank her mother in her acceptance speech. She also thanked all mothers, drawing inspiration from her role in the film, in which she plays the part of a spunky mother.

In the film “The Blind Side,” Sandra Bullock plays the part of an affluent white married woman who makes the unconventional- and risky- decision of adopting a black guy from a tough neighborhood. The film revolves around her relationship with the guy, and also the impact her decision has on his life. Sandra Bullock’s performance in the film was extraordinarily good, which possibly explains how she managed to take the Oscar away from formidable competitors like Meryl Streep and Helen Mirren.
