May 14, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): After starring in blockbusters sci-fi films like Terminator Salvation and Avatar, Sam Worthington is reportedly taking the role of Allan Quartermain.

Allan Quartermain is the protagonist of H. Rider Haggard’s 1885 novel King Solomon’s Mines and its various prequels as well as sequels. Haggard’s novels have been made into films over and over again and the latest is by Dream Works in which Worthington will not only star but also make his debut as a producer.

Dream Works’ version, which is currently called Quartemain, will be set in a time in which humans have left the earth and Quartemain, after a sojourn from space, returns to earth and sets off an adventure on a planet-wide scale.

The first draft of the script has been written by Timecop’s Mark Verheiden and it is now being worked by Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, the writer producer team, on its way to big screen.

Worthington who has starred in successful films like Avatar, Terminator Salvation and Clash of Titans in recent past is also keeping busy. He is currently shooting for Ami Canaan Mann’s crime-thriller, The Fields, and will also be seen in sequels of Clash of the Titans and Avatar.
